Addition of Cu2O on Structural and Optical Properties of Alkali Alkali -Earth Zinc Phosphate Glass

Document Type : Original Article

The structure of 42%P2O5- 40%ZnO- 2%CaO- (16-x) %Na2O-xCu2O glasses (x=2, 4, 6, 8, 10%mol) were prepared by conventional melt-quenching technique. The amorphous state of samples was verified by XRD. Density and molar volume were determined. The structural features of the glasses are determined using IR spectroscopy. Obtained data reveal that the density ρ and molar volume Mv depend nonlinearly on composition. The formation of meta, pyro and orthophosphate is in consistent with the results of molar volume, i.e., depends on chemical composition. Obtained optical absorption spectra reveal the presence both of Cu1+ and Cu2+ ions in the investigated glasses. A single broad peak observed in the optical spectra which is due to 2A1g→ 2B1g, 2B2g →2B1gand 2Eg →2B1g transition in the distorted octahedral symmetry (elongated).
